Waymo’s self-driving minivans are now open to the public in Arizona

A recent report from industry analysts Navigant identified those two programs as the current pack leaders in self-driving technology. Waymo was the first to deploy autonomous vehicles and put them to use giving people rides in Phoenix, and our own Tim Lee got a ride in one at Waymo's private test facility in California last October.

Waymo’s self-driving minivans are now offering rides to real people in Arizona

In 2019, Waymo began offering rides in metro Phoenix to select Waymo One riders. Now people can hail a Waymo Driver to ride around downtown Phoenix at a fee, and they don't need to tip a driver since there isn't one.

Testing its self-driving minivans gives Waymo the ability to gather data on where people want to ride, how users communicate with the tech-heavy vehicles, and what controls and data riders want to be able to see while inside. 2ff7e9595c
